646f9e108c A team of police force escorts an alleged terrorist from Chandangarh to Mumbai. However their trip turns into a deadly survival when an ex-cop tries to stop them to reach Mumbai. DCP Anant Shrivastav (Amitabh Bachchan) has been assigned the mission to escort terrorist Iqbal Ansari (Atul Kulkarni) from Chandangarh to Mumbai. His terrorist organization are determined to obtain him again. The plan for this is led by Yashwant Angre (Ajay Devgan), a ruthless killer and a former police officer. Anant's team consists of Inspector Shekhar Sachdev (Akshay Kumar), rookie cop Ashwin Gupte (Tusshar Kapoor) and two more inspectors. Soon Mahalakshmi (Aishwarya Rai) joins themshe is the only witness to have seen Yashwant. The team are armed and ready to go but danger lurks everywherethe terrorist organization are determined to make sure the officers do not make it to Mumbai. The trip turns into survival when the team are attacked at various times. Finally the team make it to an abandoned cottage in the forest but there is a shoot out and the team are heavily outnumbered. Shekhar tries to force an exchange but against Anant's and Ashwin's judgement. Finally Ansari, after weeks of frustration, reveals that the terrorists are also out to kill him. He reveals a corrupt world involving the police and politicians. The officers soon realize the enemy they have been fighting is closer to them…In the end, Shekhar is killed by Mahalakshmi and her associate Angre. This killing spites anger into Anant and he hunts down each one of the corrupt officers and in the end, captures Angre after a fight during which, Despite Anant needing his medication often, he wins, and Angre is successfully captured. The movie endsAngre is tried and sentenced to prison, and is being carried to his sentence; when he decides to flee,a nut is lose in the bar to which he is handcuffed in the police van. Angre has Ashwin on gun point using a constable's rifle, when Ashwin reveals that Angre's lose nut was a setup to allow the killing of Angre, and that the bullets of the rifle had been emptied. Ashwin then shoots Angre, and reports his deathmurder in an encounter. No matter how good or bad "Khakee" is, I would like to point out that in the States you can get it from Eros Video–the WORST DVD manufacturer I have ever seen. The MENU button won't take you to the movie but forces you to watch previews. Then, after you finally get to the MENU screen and push the PLAY button….you are then forced to watch MORE previews before the film begins. If I know a film is provided through EROS, I generally try to avoid it…and there are other producers of Bollywood films that read the viewer better.

The film begins with a suspected ISI (Pakistani) terrorist being arrested by the police and the police beating the man to get a confession. Next, the man is being taken to some prison, terrorists attack the police convoy and many die. You assume the prisoner escaped…but in the next scene you learn he hasn't and they want Anant (Amitabh Bachchan) to leave his post teaching at the police academy and be responsible for moving this dangerous prisoner. He's relieved because he feels that he's wasted his career in a way…doing nothing all that important. But on the other hand, he is getting older and nearing retirement…and he can finally spend time with his long-suffering family. Quickly Anant makes the decision–to do his duty and make everyone proud. However, after he begins his mission with a small group of police, it soon becomes apparent that there is FAR more to the story and there really isn't any terrorist!! So what's REALLY going on and will Anant and his men survive an all out blitz on them?

This film has a theme that might seem surprising to Western audiences but which is very common in Indian films…corruption. The notion of the police or government officials being evil is a common theme in Bollywood pictures and the audience, most likely, just too this portion of the story in stride. The overall film is quite good…like a variation on the excellent old Hollywood film "The Narrow Margin". My only complaints, and they are quite few, are the one baddie, played by Ajay Devgn, is both way too cool to be realisticwellway too indestructible. Again and again, dozens of bullets fly at him but never hit him–-and this is a bit ridiculous. But this also did make for some neat (but dumb) stunts. Well worth seeing and I especially liked seeing Bachchan's character being not so perfect in this one…an older man who isn't supposed to be in his prime.

Oh, and incidentally, Bachchan's real-life daughter-in-law to-be, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, wellAskay Kumar co-star in this film- -giving it a rather impressive cast. I'm a big fan of Amitabh Baachan, and naturally I wouldn't miss this. His performance is superb. And I am not even Indian!!! I've watched hundreds of Hindi and Tamil movies. This is by far surpassed all of them. Rent it and watch it guys!!! The plot was very well written, some of them were a total surprise. It started out a little slow in the beginning, but there're some twists here and there. This is by far surpassed all of them. The newer actors carried out their performance very well, Ajay Devgan was awesomethe villain. And beautiful Aishwarya Rai, thought was great in the movie. Like I said , rent it and watch it!!!
